Silk Road Group Supports Terracotta Army Project
12 Dec 2011
The Terracotta Army or the "Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses", is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The figures, buried with the emperor in the 3rd century BC to protect him in his afterlife, were discovered in 1974 by some local farmers in Xi'an, Shaanxi province and since then they continue to amaze spectators around the world.
The Terracotta Army has served as an inspiration to modern European Artists.
Qu Art, a company established in 2001 by John Heinz ex McKinsey and specialized in modern and contemporary sculpture, has initiated the project - “the European Army and the Qin Emperor’s warriors”: 27 brave soldiers, 2 meter high sculptures, have been created by artists from each country of the European Union as an echo to the famous Chinese warriors.
This is a European and contemporary vision of a modern army, positive and non-aggressive, without any spirit of conquest or threat. Designed for a peaceful march, this European Army will be exhibited in 8 Museums in China and then heading for Europe and displayed in leading museums and galleries of Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy and Portugal.
The exhibition tour that has made a very successful start in Xi An, the hometown of the Qin Emperor’s warriors, on November 20, 2011 will end in Georgia in September 2013. The exhibition of the famous Terracotta Army will be hosted by the Alexander Chavchavadze Museum in Tsinandali.
The touring exhibition “The European Army and the Qin Emperor’s Warriors” will benefit every country involved in the project contributing to the development of friendship and cultural exchanges between China and Europe.
Silk Road Group is one of the sponsors of the project, providing for transportation of the European Army from Europe to China and back.
